What does ministry mean at Kingswood UMC?

Kingswood UMC members seek to follow Christ as we experience God’s presence through worship, Christian educational programs, service to the community, and fellowship with our diverse membership.


Worship is the center of our church life.
Through worship we are united in Jesus Christ and called to serve God and others. Please join us for Sunday worship at 9:00am (contemporary blended) and 10:30am (relaxed traditional)

Sunday Worship Services (9 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.)

We celebrate each Sunday morning with scripture, music, Pastor’s message, the Lord’s Supper and prayer. Special services may include drama and multimedia presentations.

Special Worship Services: During the year, we celebrate services, on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, All Saint’s Sunday and other special occasions.


Our Christian Education Program offers the opportunity for spiritual growth to all ages. Educational opportunities, led by pastors, staff and trained lay persons, are available 7 days a week. The programs focus on education, service, fellowship and are designed for each age group.

Children (Infants – 5th Grade): We offer the following growth opportunities: Sunday School, Guidelines Study Program, Acolyte Training and Service, Parent’s Day Out Program, 4th-6th Grade Fellowship

Youth (7th – 12th Grade: We offer the following growth opportunities: Sunday School, Confirmation Classes, Senior High United Methodist Youth Group, Glory Fingers Puppet Ministry, Bible Study, Mission Projects, Winter Retreats, Summer Work Camps, 6th Grade Fellowship, Middle School Mission Trip

Adult: We offer the following growth opportunities: Adult Bible Studies, Advent and Lenten studies, Topical seminars and discussions, Book discussions, Grief Group

Serving & Outreach

Kingswood UMC is committed to showing and sharing God’s love through outreach and service to all ages, nations and races.

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Service)Tuesday nights, volunteers serve meals to the homeless and provide a warm place to spend the night.

Food PantryKingswood Church distributes food to the less fortunate in the surrounding community through our Emergency Food Pantry. Hours: 9:30 a.m. to noon, Thursdays. Enter through the front door of the parsonage. For information about contributing to this ministry, please view the Special Events page.

Meals on Wheels: Meals are taken to the homebound and those who are post-operative.

Prayer Shawl and Lap Robe MinistriesMembers meet to create Prayer Shawls for members and friends in need of comfort, and to make Lap Robes for nursing homes.

Mission TeamsKingswood organizes volunteers for local, national and international missions to help rebuild lives. Youth (high school) work groups are formed annually, and adult teams are organized on a periodic basis.

New Beginnings Thrift Shop: We offer new beginnings for gently used goods as well as offering new beginnings to people with special needs. Visit for more information.

Summer Suppers: Kingswood is pleased to be hosting dinners for the homeless and those in need on the 3rd Monday of the month from May through September.

Immigration Ministry: Kingswood supports Northern Illinois Justice For Our Neighbors, a UMC ministry that provides high-quality immigration legal services at no cost to our clients.

Ecumenical Dialog: Kingswood UMC is part of the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council, a group that gives people an opportunity to share our commonalities and, at the same time, honor our religious differences.

In the summer of 2016, we are teaming up with the Interfaith Council to go to Cass Community Social Services in Detroit to help with new home construction. Connecting and Including

There is a connecting opportunity for everyone at Kingswood Church. Whether it’s attending a potluck dinner, a movie group, or joining a group for a game of basketball or bowling, you are sure to feel at home and enjoy the opportunity for fellowship with Kingswood friends.

United Methodist Women: An organization for women focusing on mission, service, study and fellowship meets once a month.

United Methodist Men: An organization for men focusing on mission, service, discussion and fellowship meets one Saturday a month for breakfast.

Seasoned Seniors- Adult Ministries: This group of active seniors meets once a month for fellowship outings.

Men’s Basketball: Each Monday evening from November to April, the Men’s Basketball group plays in an in-house league in the Activity Center.

Girls Night Out: Young women’s group meets for fellowship and spiritual growth once a month.
