Kingswood UMC has a long history of local, national and world – wide outreach. One form of this outreach is our financial support of United Methodist Conference beyond the local church. In 2007 approximately 47% ($32,916) of our Conference apportionment will support the wider church’s mission and evangelism efforts. A concrete example of the United Methodist Church’s concern for mission is its partnership with two large companies who want to deal with world hunger – every day, not just when crises occur.

Additional Examples of how Kingswood Church tries to share the love of Jesus through community outreach include the following:
PADS Shelter
Every Tuesday night from October to April volunteers serve meals to the homeless and provide a warm bed in the church Activity Center.
Emergency Food Pantry
Throughout the year, Kingswood Church receives monetary and food donations from members and friends and distributes these items to those in need through our Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is located in Manna House next to the church and is open Thursday mornings from 9:30AM to 12:00 PM. Emergencies that arise during the week are handled by the church office.
Habitat For Humanity
Work groups from Kingswood volunteer their time and skill to help build houses for those who lack adequate housing.
Meals on Wheels
Kingswood members join with many other churches and volunteers to take hot meals to the homebound and post-operative people of our community.
Crop Walk
Each October Kingswood participates with area congregations and community organizations in a walk to raise awareness of the hunger that exists in our communities and beyond. We are scheduled to host Sunday, October 19, 2009.
Thanksgiving Ingathering
Grocery bags, decorated by Sunday School children, are distributed to the congregation. The bags are returned filled with needed items for our Food Pantry.
Children in Mission
The Sunday School children collect coins for a Lenten Offering to support the Food Pantry. The children also participate in UNICEF and other church sponsored missions.
Youth in Mission
Youth participate in an annual week – long Youth Mission Trip during the summer, as well as other local, national and international mission opportunities that may be sponsored by the church throughout the year.
Gifts for All God’s Children
Kingswood UMC members purchase and distribute approximately 250 Christmas gifts for less fortunate children in the Buffalo Grove/Wheeling and Chicago metropolitan area.
Sewing Group Ministry
The sewing group meets from 9:00 AM to noon on the 4th Tuesday of each month from September through May at the home of Jo Stone. Laprobes are sewn and donated to two nursing homes in the area. New people to sew or cut fabrics are always welcome.
